2023 Moving Suggestions

If you’re ringing in the New Year with a move, here are some suggestions you may want to consider:

Find the right day for your move
There are many factors to consider when deciding on moving day, such as the weather, your kids school schedule, and of course your work schedule.  Moving during bad weather can more expensive and more challenging.  Be sure to discuss this with your moving company when getting a quote for a move during a the winter months.

Hire a professional moving company
Hiring a professional moving company will certainly help make your move quicker and more efficient.  If you have a large move, hiring a moving company will likely be the best option to make sure that all of your large items get moved safely and without damage.  The first step to hiring movers is to find a reputable company. You can find reputable movers by searching online or by asking people you know for recommendations.  Once you’ve found a company you feel comfortable with, you can request a quote.  Most professional moving companies offer a free quote or estimate.

Pack wisely
Use moving boxes and make sure they’re sturdy enough to hold your things. You don’t want to spend your moving day replacing broken items because you didn’t use sturdy enough boxes. In general, you should buy new boxes for every move. Reusing boxes is not recommended, since they can easily get torn or broken.

Make sure each box has its proper label.  You may want to consider investing in a box labeler to make sure each box is clearly labeled. This way, you can stack your boxes in a way that’s easy to navigate and makes unpacking even easier.

Keep your heaviest items in the bottom of your moving box.  If you’re stacking boxes, put your heaviest items at the bottom of each box so you can easily lift the other items out.

Get rid of stuff you don’t need
Before you start the process of packing, go through your possessions and determine what you want to keep and what you want to get rid of. This will make your packing process much easier, and it’s also a great way to clean out your house before your move. Consider donating your unwanted items, as that is a great way to reduce your clutter and help others at the same time.

Don’t forget the small stuff
Moving can be a very busy and stressful experience, so try to give yourself enough time to prepare and pack, and don’t forget about the small stuff. The small stuff such as light bulbs, batteries, etc., but also your important documents, such as insurance policies, passports, and birth certificates.

Moving can be a fun and exciting time, but is a process that takes time and energy.  However, with the right planning it doesn’t have to be too stressful. Follow these suggestions and you can help make your move go smoothly and prevent you from forgetting anything important.
